Mission Statement: The AHBA's mission is to promote safe, adequate and affordable housing and to educate our members as professional and ethical business people.
What We Are: The AHBA is a non-profit trade association affiliated with the Alaska State Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. It has been chartered as a local association by NAHB since 1959. At all levels, the goal of the Association is to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for American citizens.
What We Do: The AHBA sponsors and supports both, educational and political community-service programs of many kinds. We have monthly general membership meetings with interesting speakers, an annual Home Show with a Spring Preview of Homes tour, a Parade of Homes held annually and seminars on timely topics. Our members serve on Municipality of Anchorage's committee(s) to review municipal codes, our Governmental Affairs Committee meets with assembly members and the Mayor on a regular basis. Our Board of Directors' works closely with other groups related to housing issues. The association sponsors several special programs, for example; a scholarship fund for high school seniors, the "Create Community" contest for all 5th and 6th grade students in the Anchorage Area. Our members also donated a lot of their time and materials into building a home for a low-income family in the Mountain View area, "The Association House".
AHBA membership includes membership in ASHba and NAHB. Through these associations, a member has access to a state lobbyist and educational programs approved by the ASHBA. At the national level, there is access to legal information, a library on housing topics, data on economic and financial issues and a list of discounted services to members. There is also a chance to network with over 500,000 professionals dedicated to providing decent housing for all Americans -- and have a good time doing it!
